Delhi Metro History

Delhi Metro is operated by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Delhi. Construction began in 1998 and the first section — between Shahdara and Tis Hazari on the Red Line — opened in December 2002, making it one of the first modern metro networks in India.

Since then, the network has expanded in phases across four corridors, eventually growing into one of the largest metro networks in the world by route length, extending into the neighbouring cities of Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad as part of the wider Delhi-NCR region.
